"And the Shofar Blew" - Don't let the title scare you off. When my friend, Heather, texted me about this book I thought "Shofar? What the heck is a Shofar?" {see note below} But I trusted Heather's recommendation and I love Francine Rivers book "Redeeming Love" {Best novel ever!}, so I picked it up at the library and started reading.
Without giving too many details, it's about a guy who is called to pastor a church in central California. The story starts in the late eighties and spans 20 years. I quickly connected and fell in love with some of the characters and there was a couple who I wish were real people in my life {Samuel and Abby for those of you who've read it already}. It was great. I highly recommend it!
Note - according to Google a shofar is "a ram's-horn trumpet used by ancient Jews in religious ceremonies and as a battle signal, now sounded at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur".

I love Francine Rivers! If you loved "Redeeming Love," (which I heard they were making into a movie, BTW), then you need to read Bridge To Haven. It ranks right up there with Redeeming in my opinion!! Since your a Kingsbury fan, I also suggest "Angels Walking." I'm a book worm!
ReplyDeleteThey ARE?!?! That would be SO amazing! I wonder who they are going to cast in it?
DeleteI will add both those books to my "To Read List"! Thanks for the suggestions!
I just finished Bridge to Haven because of your recommendation and it was SO VERY GOOD! I couldn't put it down! Thanks for telling me about it Laura!
DeleteThanks for the book recommendation. I also loved Redeeming Love, so I'll be sure to check this one out. I'm glad I found your blog through Waiting on Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteTanya - It is SUCH a great book. It's so good that I have read it multiple times. I always warn people that the first couple of chapters are a little hard to read but you need to have the foundation for the rest of the book, so stick with it! And make sure you come back to let me know if you liked it! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI enjoyed this book! Francine Rivers is my favorite Christian author!
ReplyDeleteHave you read the Mark of the Lion Series? I've heard great things about it, but I was bored within the first chapter. I'm thinking I need to try it again. =) Thanks for stopping by!
