Building our House

As you know, we bought a house - so THIS time {Lord willing} we will be here for quite sometime!  We put a down payment on a house back in March, when it looked like this:
March 28, 2015
And got to watch them build it. {The move in date was August 31st!, which in June they moved up to July 31st.}
April 3, 2015
This sign made it real!

We went over almost everyday.
(great room)
To see what had been done.
(great room windows out to the back porch)
May 9, 2015
(upstairs game room)
See that house right there?  That's where Dylan's best friend lives. How awesome is that!
May 30, 2015 The brick is going up.
June 3, 2015, Its beginning to look like a real house!
This is the current view from the back porch.  There will be houses there someday, but I will enjoy this view for now.
June 6, 2015 We picked Bible verses to write on the walls of the house.
Payton wrote "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Children obey your parents and your father and mouther for this is right witch is the first commandment with a promise that it will go well with you and have long life on the earth."  Which she wrote from memory!
~
For Rylan's room I wrote "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your should and with all your might. Debt 6:5". He drew circles.
Dylan chose "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved Acts 16:31"
And in the main archway, I wrote "But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15"
June 9, 2015 The insulation went in (this is the kitchen)
June 14, 2015 I discovered that Dylan had also written this a couple of days ago.
June 15, 2015 We have drywall!
Such a sweet moment.  I hope they have lots of talks on this patio.
June 22, 2015 Cabinets were installed.
June 27, 2015 Then sinks, granite and tile.
Fireplace mantle.
June 30, 2015 Master shower tile.
July 2, 2015 Prepping to pour the driveway.
Our front door is in.
July 5, 2014 Light fixtures. (dining room)
July 6, 2015 The hardwood floors are installed!
July 7, 2015 Driveway done.
July 9, 2015 Appliances installed... but we didn't order black - whoops!
Toilets went in.
July 10, 2015 Refrigerator!
This is the back porch.
July 15, 2015 Grading done.
July 17, 2015 We have a mailbox!
July 20, 2015 Our plants and tree were put in.
And the backsplash {that's the wrong cooktop}.
July 21, 2015 The carpeting installed and the kids approve.
July 23, 2015 I think I'm going to love this bath.
July 24, 2015 We have grass!
Our adjusted move in date of July 31st came and went.  There were some hold ups.  We were told it would be August 7th.
August 7, 2015 Finally the right appliances went in.  I cannot WAIT to get back to a gas stovetop.
But we still didn't have electricity so our move in date got pushed to August 14th.
August 12, 2015 We have electricity!
And look at Chris' and my closet!  I am SO excited {can you tell?}.
August 13th we did a walk-through.
August 14th, we finally got our CO {certificate of occupancy}, but the house still is not finished.  The bathrooms haven't been painted (since there was no electricity to see), there is a ton of touch up paint and repairs to the floor, and lights to be moved.  So our new move in date is 18th.
Chris loves that we have 2 separate sinks so I don't take over his space.  =)
August 18th, our punch list is long, but we closed on the house!

  1. Hi, this brings back so many memories for me. We designed and built our own home a few years back, and it is an experience that will always stay with me. To have that amount of input into how you want a room to look, is just amazing. Good luck to you and your lovely family.

    1. Thanks Justin! I think it makes it feel more like a "home" quicker too.
