Making Time with God a Priority

Yesterday I read this post from Hugs and Punches. {Go ahead and read it. I'll be waiting right here for you when you get done.}
Good right? It was perfect timing for me. My time with the Lord was whenever I could fit it in and sometimes {gulp} not at all.  I wasn't giving Him my firstfruits in my day or my priorities! One sentence that really stuck with me was:
"Every morning I ask myself, what's more important, my relationship with Christ or with my pillow?"
Ouch! Now mine wouldn't be my pillow but instead my heated mattress pad {thank you Papa & Sasha!}. I'm all warm and toasty and don't want to step out into the cool morning air.
But still if Christ is so important to me, why am I'm not making my time with him a priority?
So fast forward to this morning, I woke up {on my own} at 5:45am . . . 30 minutes earlier than normal and completely unplanned. I grabbed my phone and while snuggled in my warm cocoon of a bed, did my normal thing.

(1) Read and respond to texts that my mom and sisters sent during the night (they are 1 & 2 hours behind me).
(2) Check my emails.
(3) Scroll thru Instagram.
(4) Hop on Bloglovin' and read some of the blogs I follow.

While on Bloglovin', I remembered that question - What's more important? God or my pillow reading blog posts? I fought it for a couple of seconds before I actually got up out of bed. {Geez I'm stubborn!} I grabbed a blanket and my Bible and went and snuggled up in a chair.
Instead of starting on the study I am doing, I thought I would read something else first that would help prepare my heart to focus on God. I decided that since it's the 3rd day of March I would read the 3rd chapter of Proverbs {You know, 31 chapters in Proverbs, 31 days in a month - you read one chapter a day?}.  And guess what??? It talks about FIRSTFRUITS

I was dumbfounded. {Okay God, I hear you!} He wants me to give him my firstfruits. And since I'm out of the baby stage and the kids are {more or less} sleeping through the night, I CAN wake up a little bit early and spend that quality time with Him. Plus why would I want to risk not having a chance to hear from him like I did today?
By the way, that whole chapter is phenomenal. There are so many applicable points that I re-read it, twice. Can you guess where you will find me tomorrow morning?

  2. Don't you love when God gets your attention like that?! Wow! This was such a good post! I loved it! I'm guilty too of doing all those things that are absolutely not as important as my time with God. You have encouraged me to offer up my firstfruits - not my leftovers! And, thank you for linking up with Waiting on...Wednesdays! I hope you'll be back next week!
